Leeds city centre has over 1,000 shops, 20 major hotels and several more under construction including 8 more proposed schemes. The city is also home to four renowned theatres, 152 pubs, bars and cafes, and 29 nightclubs with bars and late licenses. It is fast-becoming the entertainment capital of the North.

The cultural, historical and architectural heritage of Leeds is well represented by a host of museums, stately homes and art galleries, from the national attractions of the Royal Armouries and the Thackray Museum to the fine mansions of Harewood House, Temple Newsam and Lotherton Hall.

Entertainment Leeds has a full calendar of events, from an exciting programme of open air public entertainment for all the family - including 'Opera in the Park', 'Party in the Park' and 'Classical Fantasia' - to prestigious work presented by Opera North, Phoenix Dance, Northern Ballet Theatre and the West Yorkshire Playhouse. The renowned West Yorkshire Playhouse stages more productions than any other theatre outside London.
A question of sport There are excellent sporting facilities in Leeds for both the spectator and the participant, with championship football at Elland Road, international cricket and super-league rugby at Headingley and horse racing at Wetherby.
